Lift guidance

Informal lift sharing

TootyToot helps members of the same local community find each other and agree lifts directly.

What TootyToot does

Members can ask for a lift, offer a spare seat and message each other to agree the details.

What TootyToot does not do

TootyToot does not provide, assign, book or guarantee transport. It is not a taxi, private hire or commercial ride service.

Drivers

Drivers are responsible for holding a valid driving licence, using a safe and roadworthy vehicle, and checking that their insurance covers informal lift sharing or cost sharing.

Sharing journey costs

Any money shared between members must only cover genuine journey costs. Lifts must not be offered for profit.

Member choice

Drivers and passengers decide for themselves whether to travel together. Either person can decline or cancel an arrangement.

Commercial activity

Paid transport services, repeated commercial offers and requests for fares should be reported.

Before travelling

  • Agree the date, time and meeting place.
  • Agree the route and any shared cost.
  • Exchange exact addresses through messages, not public posts.
  • Tell someone else about the arrangement when appropriate.
  • Do not travel if something does not feel right.
Report a concern

Keep private details private

Public lift requests should stay general enough for your community to understand the journey. Exact addresses, door numbers, phone numbers and detailed instructions should be shared later through messages if you decide to travel together.

No guarantees

A lift request does not guarantee that someone will respond, and an offer does not guarantee that another member must accept it. TootyToot helps members coordinate directly, but each arrangement remains a personal choice between the people involved.
